behind the scenes...
The transition from sideman to artist is not an easy one to make, but if you are multi-instrumentalist John Calzavara, you do it with the grace of a seasoned professional. Calzavara's first album, Cosmic Wave, plays like a compilation of tunes from an artists's third or fourth effort. Working as a sideman and session player in Nashville for fifteen years, and moonlighting in the jazz scene on off hours, has honed John's skills in both musicianship and composition. "I wanted to explore composition in depth, and see where it would lead me." That exploration has led to the album Cosmic Wave, a conglomeration of several styles from jazz, Latin, rock, country and bluegrass. Put them all together and what do you have? Who knows, but it works! Calzavara produced and penned all ten tunes on the album and played many of the instruments. John also enlisted the talents of some of Nashville's finest musicians and engineers, and an old friend in Los Angeles. The talented team of professionals on this album gives the music a unique sound from the powerful title track Cosmic Wave to the ethereal Adam's Clay. This music takes you through a range of emotions and leaves you longing for more. An original blending of sounds, skilled playing and singable melodies makes you want to hear these songs again and again. We invite you to listen for yourself and to experience this new music in your own unique way.
